Laura Howe started River City Engineering in 2010 and has been working in the HVAC/Mechanical Engineering field for over 21 years. She began her work in this field as The Assistant Director for Utilities and Engineering at the University of Montana in Missoula in 2002. In 2005 Laura gained her P.E. as a Mechanical Engineer in Montana, in 2009 gained her LEED professional accreditation, and in 2018 achieved her ASHRAE Building Commissioning Professional certification (BCxP).
Laura started her engineering career at Montana State University when she gained her B.S. in Chemical Engineering in 1992 and spent 10 years at the Smurfit-Stone Container Pulp Mill in Missoula working as a Environmental and Process Control Engineer. In 2002 Laura took the opportunity to switch engineering disciplines and went to work for the University of Montana. While at UM Laura gained a breadth and depth of experience regarding HVAC systems, utilities, project management, and especially operating and maintenance issues of facilities. She dealt not only with new construction projects, but also renovations and day to day issues surrounding keeping facilities operating well.
In 2009 Laura left the University to start River City Engineering, LLC. Laura started this company to focus on building commissioning and energy studies/modeling, while continuing to design systems in conjunction with this work. Her expertise in these areas is valuable for owners not only because of her technical skills, but also by understanding the needs of owners, having been one while at UM.
